Marijn Romer has been working as an independent interim manager and, on occasion, as a consultant since 2017, specialising in general management and operations for organisations undergoing transition or facing difficult times. In this role, he has served on several occasions as CEO and/or CRO for companies in turnaround and crisis situations, such as AGU and Stork IMM. He has a clear eye for strategy and stakeholder management, engaging with internal stakeholders as well as shareholders, supervisory boards and financiers. In the years prior to this, he built up a broad base of experience within PostNL/TNT across virtually all aspects of operations, line and project management, up to senior C-level.
“I connect people, processes and systems within the organisation, so that customers are better served and business results improve. I do this by understanding what is needed: at both a strategic and operational level. I listen and observe, and quickly come up with practical, actionable plans that align well with the company’s direction. In doing so, I build support without losing momentum.”
“My career has taught me to quickly gain an overview of complex situations and to identify and implement steps forward in a short space of time, whether that involves an operational turnaround, a WHOA process, or a strategic change of direction. I enjoy working with shareholders, private equity firms and supervisory boards, and I understand the dynamics and dilemmas of governance from the inside.”
“In addition to my interim practice, I focus on advisory and supervisory roles and mentor start-ups and scale-ups. Key concepts that people attribute to my approach are accessibility, balance and integrity, and for me these are certainly not empty words. The result is paramount, but the way in which you achieve it with the people within and around the organisation contributes enormously to this and also ensures lasting improvement.”
